Professor Andrew Jordan, Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, has been appointed to the UK Climate Change Committee (CCC), recognised for his expertise in climate policy, governance, and environmental research.
Professor Andrew Jordan, Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, has been appointed to the UK Climate Change Committee (CCC) for a five-year term that begins on 6 April 2026.
The appointment continues the Tyndall Centre’s long-standing connection to the Climate Change Committee, following the ten-year tenure of former Director Professor Corinne Le Quéré.
Joining in a ‘decisive decade for climate action’
The Climate Change Committee (CCC) is an independent statutory body that advises the UK and devolved governments on emissions targets, and reports to Parliament on progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preparing for climate change.
Professor Andrew Jordan brings over 30 years of experience in environmental and climate policy to the CCC. He is internationally recognised for his research on how governments design, coordinate and innovate public policies for sustainability, particularly within the European Union.
Prof. Andrew Jordan has led major UK and EU-funded research programmes, and his leadership includes serving on DEFRA’s Science Advisory Council (Social Science Expert Group) and the UK Office for Environmental Protection’s College of Experts. He is a Fellow of the British Academy and the Academy of Social Sciences.
Reflecting on the appointment, Prof. Jordan said:
“I am both honoured and excited to be joining the committee mid-way through this decisive decade for climate action. As a social scientist with expertise in climate policy and governance, I look forward to working closely with the Committee to provide advice, support and constructive challenge.”
New appointments strengthen climate expertise
Professor Andrew Jordan was appointed by ministers in the UK and Devolved Governments, following an open competition in line with the Governance Code on Public Appointments.
He joins Professor Laura Díaz Anadón and Emily Norton as fellow Non-Executive Directors to the Climate Change Committee, bringing expertise across climate science and policy, social research, and land use and agriculture.
Nigel Topping CMG, Chair of the Climate Change Committee, said:
“I am delighted to welcome three new members to the Committee and congratulate them on their appointments.
“At a time when innovation is vital to unlocking climate ambition and economic opportunity for the UK, drawing on a broad range of practical expertise will help ensure our analysis remains robust and relevant. Laura’s leadership in energy innovation, Emily’s hands-on experience in agriculture and land use, and Andrew’s deep knowledge of climate policy will each bring valuable insight. Their perspectives will strengthen our upcoming advice, including our next report to Parliament on the country’s progress in reducing emissions.”
