The University of Bath joined the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research as a new partner in 2026, with a particular focus on the role of people, communities, organisations, and governments in responding to the climate crisis. To better understand how societies can transition towards low-carbon and climate-resilient futures, Bath social science researchers examine how UK climate action can be encouraged and supported through areas such as psychology, behaviour change, public engagement, governance, policy, and communication.
From the University of Bath, Professor Lorraine Whitmarsh MBE leads the Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformations (CAST) and the People Centred Climate Resilience Programme, where researchers investigate how energy use, transport, food, and consumption can support both emissions reductions and wider benefits for health, wellbeing, and fairness.
The University of Bath also conducts climate change research across a wide range of disciplines, including practical solutions for a net-zero future through the Institute of Sustainability and Climate Change (ISCC).
