Thomas is a PhD researcher at the University of East Anglia (ARIES 2024 cohort) supervised by Professor Corinne Le Quéré, studying the role of phytoplankton functional diversity in carbon export from marine ecosystems. His project combines modelling and field observations to refine our understanding of the contribution of diatoms, a major phytoplankton group, to carbon storage in the deep ocean. This research aims to improve our understanding of plankton ecosystem dynamics and enhance the representation of carbon export in climate models.
After completing an MSc in Marine Ecology at Sorbonne University (Paris), Thomas joined the French Navy, where he studied plankton communities in the western Indian Ocean as part of the international consortium Plankton Planet.
