Masoud Zeraati

PhD Researcher

Masoud Zeraati is a PhD researcher at the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) OnePlanet Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) at Newcastle University. His primary research focuses on flash droughts, compound extremes, heatwave, extreme precipitation, and climate change. He has extensive experience working with various datasets, including reanalysis, observational, and remote sensing data.

Masoud is particularly interested in using satellite data, such as MODIS, AIRS, OCO-2, GPM, and GRACE, to monitor flash droughts and analyze their characteristics. His broader research interests include understanding trends and variability in extreme events, the physical mechanisms driving flash droughts, ecosystem responses to flash droughts, and the cascading impacts of heatwaves, flash droughts, extreme precipitation/wildfires, and water resource management.
