Hannah Hoechner

Associate Professor

Dr Hannah Hoechner is an Associate Professor in Education and Global Development in the School of Global Development, University of East Anglia. She is a qualitative social scientist interested in the nexus between education, development and justice.

Much of her work has looked at Islamic education in West Africa, including northern Nigeria and Senegal. She is interested in ethnographic and participatory methods and has produced a ‘participatory’ docu-drama with Qur’anic students on their educational experiences in Kano/Nigeria as part of her research.

Her recent research interests include university climate education, student climate activism and the nexus between decarbonising and decolonising international research collaborations.

She is a member of UEA BCAN – the UEA Biodiversity and Climate Action Network and has been an invited attendee of the UEA Sustainability Committee for several years.
