Gavin is an associate professor in the School of Psychology at the University of East Anglia. Among his research interests are moral psychology, especially the influences on children’s and adults’ moral judgements. This is directly relevant to people’s views on the rights and wrongs of climate-related activities, the relationships between these views and behaviours, and the development of these views and behaviours from early childhood. He also researches children’s and adults’ understanding of scientific concepts, especially in astronomy (e.g., the shape of the earth) and biology (e.g., the developing understanding of illness and death). Gavin also has a keen interest in the methane budget, organic farming, and the domestic use of solar power, heat pumps and electric vehicles. Much of his research has involved interviewing children in primary schools, and more recently he tends to use online questionnaires with large sample sizes.
