Li is a Senior Research Associate at the University of East Anglia. Her current research focuses on soil re-carbonisation; soil carbon stability; soil carbon modelling; the effects of land management and climate change on soil carbon and soil health. She is currently working on the OpenLAND project, which explores how changes in UK land use could create benefits for net zero targets, soil health, biodiversity and agriculture. Her work involves the application and modification of soil carbon models to investigate the changes in soil carbon affected by different land use interventions and climate change.
Li’s research interests include soil science, soil pollution, environmental modelling, waste management, land management and climate change. Her research has focused on the re-carbonisation of soils using carbon-rich organic materials and waste-derived materials and explored the potential of such materials to increase soil carbon storage and contribute to mitigating climate change. She is currently investigating how land management interventions could contribute to soil carbon sequestration, soil health and climate mitigation. She is particularly interested in improving the representation of soil carbon processes with modelling frameworks and linking experimental measurements of soil carbon with large scale modelling.
