Tommie Bloomfield

PhD Researcher

Tommie Bloomfield is a UKRI funded PhD candidate at the University of Southampton, specialising in human-environment interactions in the Roman world. With an academic background in archaeology, he earned his undergraduate degree from Cardiff University and his MSc from the University of Southampton.

His current research explores how Romano-British industry shaped landscapes, ecosystems, and communities through time and space. By integrating emerging palaeoecological techniques, such as sedimentary ancient DNA (sedaDNA) with traditional environmental proxies like pollen, non-pollen palynomorphs, and macrofossils, Tommie investigates patterns of anthropogenic environmental change in the past. His work aims to reveal how these historical dynamics can inform contemporary debates on ecological resilience and human impact on the environment.
