Muir Freer

Research Associate

Hello, my name is Muir. I’ve recently returned to the Tyndall Centre as a Research Associate on the BuildZero project, following my time at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, where I worked in the International Hydrogen team. My background includes carbon dioxide removals, CCUS, supply chains, bioenergy, hydrogen, resource modelling, industrial decarbonisation, stakeholder engagement, and circular economy systems.

I completed my PhD at Tyndall Manchester back in 2022, focusing on Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage supply chains for the UK. I have worked on quite a few projects, including IDRIC, UKCCSRC, CAST, and Supergen, developing practical models and tools to support evidence-based supply chain and infrastructure planning.

Outside of work, I enjoy powerlifting, 3D printing with recycled materials, and looking after my Ragdoll kitten called Violet, who is a gremlin.
