Josie Baker

PhD Researcher

Josie is a PhD student on the Leverhulme Doctoral Scholarships Programme for Interdisciplinary Resilience Studies. She is based in the School of Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Southampton. Her research explores women’s resilience to extreme heat in the UK. Through analysing the lived experience of resilience to past heatwaves and drawing from diverse forms of literature, she aims to uncover the memories, narratives and stories that exist in relation to past, present and future resilience.

Josie’s research interest centers on the gendered dimensions of risk and resilience and her previous research includes investigation of the lack of gender disaggregated disaster data. She completed a BSc in Geology and an MSc in Risk at Durham University.
