Ellie Atayee-Bennett

Doctor of Sociology

Ellie Atayee-Bennett completed her PhD at the University of Southampton within the School of Sociology, Social Policy, and Criminology, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council’s South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership. Her research explored the intersections between veganism, sustainability, and religion in order to explore the socio-cultural influences that may encourage or inhibit behavioural change. Her PhD thesis focused on the understandings and experiences of Muslim, Jewish, and Christian vegans in the UK, and whilst the focus was predominantly on veganism, many of her findings also offered insight into sustainable behaviours and how they are understood through a religious lens, namely through principles such as stewardship.
