Davide Filingeri

Professor of Human Thermal Physiology

Dr Davide Filingeri is a Professor of Human Thermal Physiology, Director of Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise, and Principal Investigator of the Thermosenselab, at the University of Southampton. Davide also acts as the theme lead for heat stress across the University’ s Institute for Life Sciences and Sustainability and Resilience Institute.

Davide is internationally recognised as one of the world-leading experts on the physiology of human skin thermo- and wetness-sensing. His fundamental research and discoveries have shaped global industrial practice in thermal wearable technology as well as clinical understanding of heat intolerance. This is evidenced by strategic partnerships with corporates such as Nike Inc. (the world’s largest sportwear manufacturer) and Procter & Gamble (global healthcare goods manufacturer), as well as public engagement with heat-sensitive patient groups and national charities.

At the University of Southampton, Davide leads a multidisciplinary research programme in climate and health using integrative physiology approaches in humans exposed to thermal stress in a state-of-the-art climatic chamber located within University Hospital Southampton.
