The Tyndall Centre has announced the appointment of Professor Andy Jordan as its new Director, bringing fresh leadership to one of the world’s leading climate change research centres.
The new Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research is Professor Andy Jordan FBA FAcSS FIEMA1, who was appointed today following an international recruitment process.
Andy is one of the world’s most highly cited researchers in the fields of climate policy, environment policy, environmental politics and the European Union. He takes on the role in the same year that the Centre celebrates 25 years of generating cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research and policy impact.
Andy has had a long and productive association with the Tyndall Centre and considerable experience of leading large international research collaborations and impact-generating activities.
‘I am honoured and proud to have been selected to direct the Tyndall Centre in its 25th anniversary year’, said Prof. Jordan. ‘The Tyndall Centre has an enviable international reputation for producing rigorous, world-leading research that informs real-world decisions on climate adaptation and resilience in a multitude of different contexts.
‘I look forward to working with colleagues at UEA and other partner institutions to steer the Tyndall Centre towards practical solutions of some of the most urgent and important environmental, societal and economic challenges of our time.’
Esteemed leadership and research
Professor Andy Jordan has led many national and EU-funded projects and produced work for a large number of knowledge users, including the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the UK Cabinet Office, the UK environment ministry (DEFRA), the European Commission, and the European Environment Agency.
He currently serves on the UK Office for Environmental Protection’s College of Experts, and the editorial boards of three international academic journals.
He is an Associate Director of the ESRC-funded Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformations (CAST) and is PI of the prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant-funded project DeepDCarb (Deep Decarbonisation).
Continuing a collaborative mission
The Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research is a uniquely interdisciplinary partnership of five universities. With 300 members, ranging from PhD researchers through to eminent emeritus Professors, the Tyndall Centre constitutes one of the largest and longest-established bodies of climate change expertise in Europe.
The centre will formally celebrate its 25th anniversary at the Critical Decade for Climate Action Conference, 8-10 September at the University of East Anglia (UEA).
