An evening of reflection on the highs and lows of climate action over the last 25 years and the priorities to support action now.

Since the inception of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research in 2000, we have generally experienced a trend of increasing support for accelerated climate action across community, organisation, regional, national and international levels.

However, recently this broad consensus and positive framing has become more fractured. Some politicians and commentators are using their view on climate targets, and the pathways and investments needed to deliver them, as a point of difference.

Many of the well known ‘discourses of delay’ are present in the arguments made, but does this moment offer those committed to accelerating action an important chance to reflect critically and constructively on various questions including:

  • What has worked and what could be improved for climate action?
  • Who has felt included and excluded in climate policy and action?
  • What policies and actions should be prioritised?
  • What pace and nature of change is possible and probable – how will this be determined?
  • What can we learn from the past to be more effective at addressing issues in the future?
  • There is clear evidence that public support for climate action remains high – how can this be harnessed to shape and drive action?

In this event we will bring together diverse perspectives and experiences in a panel discussion and host an evening of conversations, reflections and planning amongst those committed to climate action. We hope to provide a space that is open, constructive and reflective – and a chance to recharge with colleagues.
