Affiliate Member of the Tyndall Centre, Researcher

Dr. Min Zhang is an associate professor at Shanghai Normal University. In 2024, he serves as a visiting scholar at the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, University of East Anglia. His primary objective is to collaborate closely with Professor Robert Nicholls, investigating the dynamics and mechanisms underlying compound extreme flood events in Shanghai. This research aims to explore innovative flood adaptation strategies for major delta cities and reveal the complex interplay between hydrological cycles and urban natural disasters during urbanisation processes. Furthermore, the project will assess the effectiveness of varied flood mitigation approaches to enhance urban resilience, simulating flood risks across different climate scenarios to support policymaking with scientific evidence and technical guidance.

Over the past five years, his work has centred on teaching and conducting research in hydrodynamic numerical simulation, remote sensing, and GIS applications. His studies primarily investigate the development of estuarine delta systems, storm surge flooding, and integrated disaster mitigation measures in coastal urban areas, particularly focusing on the Nature-based solutions and the ecological restoration of tidal flats, considering the cumulative effects of global climate change and human interventions.
