Wenzhu Li

PhD Researcher

Wenzhu is a PhD student in an interdisciplinary project supported by the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF). She is based within the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering at the University of Manchester, where she also received her Master’s degree in Advanced Electrical Power Systems Engineering (2-year course) in July 2020.

Wenzhu is working with five excellent researchers from different backgrounds, including the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research and the Centre for Crisis Studies and Mitigation. Her PhD research centres on the resilience of electricity networks in Malaysia to climate impacts, in an attempt to answer questions including: Is the power network resilient enough? What is the mechanism that causes failure? How do key components of power infrastructure interact with extreme weather events? Why should society build its own power network as they do?

Wenzhu enjoys learning about the natural world and hopes to develop a variety of skills including theory, observation and modelling during her PhD study.
