Sien is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, based in the Environmental Change and Sustainability research group in the School of Geography and Environmental Science. She is an interdisciplinary researcher focused on the adaptation of individuals, communities, and local stakeholders to changing coastlines. Her research spans past, contemporary and future adaptations, and examines responses to social, economic, environmental and personal changes that can be sudden and slow-onset, small and large scale, one-off events or ongoing. She is particularly interested in the spectrum of co-produced research pathways, and the role for citizen science in adaptation processes.
Sien is also affiliated with the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute, and is member of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) UK Committee.
