Sara Skarp

PhD Researcher

Sara Skarp is a PhD researcher in the School of Environmental Sciences at UEA. In her research, she studies community-based ways of dealing with waste and materials in the UK, focused on their implications for environmental sustainability and social justice. Her theoretical focus is grounded in alternative organisation in general, and commoning in particular, both of which critically examine how we organise systems of provision and social relations. Sara’s research indicates that community-based waste management and prevention can act as a vision of a more sustainable waste future, a pathway to it, as well as proof that local solutions to global issues are possible. She collaborates with and is part-funded by Norfolk County Council’s waste department.

Sara also holds a BA in Global Studies and Human Ecology from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, and an MSc in Environmental Science and Sustainability Studies from Lund University, Sweden, with a specialisation in marketisation of public services.
