Paul Sayers

Affiliate Member of the Tyndall Centre, Collaborator on OpenCLIM project

Paul is a recognised expert on flood and coastal risks (at a community, city and regional scale) and the development of policies and adaptive strategies to underpin resilience.  Recent studies include leading the UK Climate Change Risk Assessment flood projections and the development of event-based approaches within the UK Climate Resilience Programme. At UEA Paul will be leading the flood component of the OpenClim programme.  Previously a Board Director at the international research consultancy HR Wallingford, Paul has over 25 years of experience in all aspects of flood and  coastal management.  This has been gained working in the UK and internationally, including collaborations in Australia, China, Denmark, Norway, Italy, Netherlands, Canada, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya and the USA (and many others).   In addition to his applied research consultancy activities Paul continues to be part of leading research programmes in the UK, Europe and internationally.  Paul is an advisor to the Joint Defra/Environment Research Programme (on flood and coastal Asset Management) an Associate Advisor to WWF (on coastal and freshwater flood issues) an Associate Fellow of the ODI (Risk and Resilience).   Paul is also a member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Flood Risk Management and acts as a reviewer for many others international journals.
