Joel Gilbert

Joel is a PhD researcher working to reduce car dependency in the UK by focusing on specific journeys, currently the “school run”.   Joel is applying theories of social practice to contribute new insights into why car use is increasing for this journey and to develop innovative policy pathways to reverse this trend.  In his role with the Tyndall Centre, Joel has also partnered with researchers from the University of Manchester, and local organisations such as Transport for Greater Manchester and WalkRide Greater Manchester, to report on local residents’ experiences of School Streets schemes in order to guide future best practice.
