Dong is a PhD researcher at the University of East Anglia working on “the Nordic Seas ocean circulation, its interaction with sea ice and atmosphere”. He works with Dr Xiaoming Zhai, Prof. Ian Renfrew, and Prof. David Stevens.
The project focuses on modelling ocean circulation and sea ice retreat using the MIT General Circulation Model (MITgcm), aided by ever-increasing observational data. The Nordic Seas climate state is key to the Atlantic Meridianal Overturning Circulation (AMOC) and the Arctic, shaping the weather and climate in the northern hemisphere and beyond. A realistic ocean-ice model will contribute to a better understanding of the regional climate dynamics.
Dong studied and worked in China, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, and Saudi Arabia. His interest in Oceanography has now brought him to England, to explore the ocean and climate in the Nordic seas.
