Role at Tyndall
Prof. Detlef van Vuuren works on integrated assessment of global environmental change, mostly using model-based scenario studies. He is an affiliate member of the Tyndall Centre.
Detlef leads the IMAGE integrated assessment modelling team at PBL. He participates in several international research programmes including the Earth Commission, the Global Carbon Budget and the Integrated Assessment Modelling Consortium. He is an author of several Assessments Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Detlef van Vuuren is also a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences and the Arts in the Netherlands.
Background
Detlef van Vuuren was born in the Netherlands and completed a MSc in both Environmental Sciences and Chemistry at Utrecht University. In 2007, he completed a Ph.D. at the same university on modeling of future energy systems at Utrecht University.
Research Interests
Detlef’s core research area is on the future development of sustainable development problems (in particular climate change) by developing model-based scenarios. He has been a core member of the integrated assessment community in the last two decades – and has played a major role in the scenarios currently used in international climate and sustainability research.
