Anna Watson

University of Sussex

Doctoral Researcher

I am based at SPRU, University of Sussex, supported by the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) and ESRC.

I'm interested in underdstanding why different countries take different clean energy technology trajectories by examining the impact of political economy on the approach and direction of clean electricity innovation RD&D. My thesis title is:The Political Economy of Clean Electricty Innovation Organisations: A Case Study of the US and UK. My supervisors are Prof. Jim Watson and Dr. Florian Kern

I have over five years commercial conference experience and continue to produce events on a freelance basis. I most recently worked with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) to organise their innovation focused events, prior to this producing international renewable energy events. This experience has granted me a unique insight into the role of policy makers and private sector innovation in creating viable markets for low carbon technologies, and the inerplay that occurs between vast networks of actors in creating successful partnerhsips and development opportunties.

In addition I have experience of working as a social media strategist for the School of Global Studies at the University of Sussex, and am especially interested in the use of social media to make academic research accessible.
