Professors Andy Jordan (UEA), Nick Pidgeon (Cardiff), Lorraine Whitmarsh (Cardiff) and Wouter Poortinga (Cardiff) – leaders in their respective fields of social sciences – feature in the Web of Science’s Highly Cited Researchers list for 2017.
“This shows both the social science impact of the Tyndall Centre as well as its interdisciplinary ethos spanning from research into environmental decisions by international Governments through to individuals’ psychology” said Asher Minns of the Tyndall Centre.
The accolade is based on citations – the number of times their research is cited by other scholars globally. Authors are selected on the basis of “consistent production” of highly cited papers – defined as those that rank in the top 1 per cent by field and publication year in Web of Science.
The list features more than 3,000 researchers globally, across 21 fields. Only 180 social scientists in the world feature in the list.
Professor Phil Jones of the Climatic Research Unit at University of East Anglia is also listed in the field of geosciences.
Prof Andy Jordan said: “That there are two very highly cited climate experts based at UEA in Norwich and a further three working in the wider Tyndall Centre network coordinated by UEA, powerfully confirms that Norwich is an international centre of excellence in climate science and social science research.”
