Abstract

In this paper we examine Integrated Assessment and Modelling (IA/M) from an institutional and policy perspective. The application and use of IA/Ms is the main topic of interest and we draw upon existing experiences of using models in policy making across a range of issue domains. Since most of the examples emerge from the UK, however, the analysis may not be as pertinent to other national political cultures. Our focus is more upon the use of formal computer-based modelling tools rather than on the qualitative dimensions of assessment: this seems to us to reflect the main impetus and originality behind current Integrated Assessment efforts.
