- My Thesis' Abstract
With increased development in the coastal zone and expected sea-level change, extreme floods are more likely to occur. The EU funded THESEUS project aims to address this challenge by developing a systematic approach to coastal management that will deliver both a low-risk coast for human use and healthy habitats for evolving coastal zones subject to multiple change factors. Integrated flood system models are crucial in providing the information necessary to achieve this goal.
The aim of my research is to build on current knowledge and understanding to capture the inter-relationships between human and natural assets and identify linkages that may not be distinguished in present flood propagation models. This will recognise the role that the natural environment plays in coastal protection and the effectiveness of other approaches to reducing risk.
