China is now the world’s largest energy user and, in many respects, its most dynamic energy economy. China will have a major role to play in the future of international energy markets and climate change mitigation.

This Grantham Institute event contains two presentations of the outlook and climate mitigation potential of China’s energy sector to 2050.

  • Director General Han Wenke of the Energy Research Institute (ERI) of China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), will introduce, and Dr Yang Yufeng will present, the results of the ERI’s new long term energy analysis; China 2050 Energy Pathway.

The Grantham Institute's work on China 2050 was carried out as part of the AVOID programme, sponsored by DECC and Defra. The Tyndall Centre is a part of the AVOID programme.
